Sleep apnea occurs in all age groups and both sexes, although it is more common in men. People who are most likely to
have or develop sleep apnea include those who snore loudly and are over weight, have high blood pressure or a physical abnormality
in the nose, throat or other parts of the upper airway. Sleep apnea may also be genetic.
Statistics reveal that:
- 4 in 100 middle-aged men have OSA
- 2 in 100 middle-aged women have OSA
- Most OSA sufferers remain undiagnosed and untreated
- 50% - 60% of patients with impaired cardiac function suffer from sleep related breathing problems
